BLACK BART DATA COMPANY LAUNCHES NEW WEB-BASED TOOL FOR OIL AND GAS PROFESSIONALS

On November 15, 2000 Black Bart Data Company officially unveiled its innovative new web tool for oil and gas acquisition professionals. The tool is an interactive comparables database, which is searchable online via the Web and will be marketed as "Black Bart Comparables". The database is a collection of data points of all oil and gas properties that have been sold on the auction block since 1996. The website can be found at www.BlackBartComparables.com.

Black Bart Comparables is fully searchable over the web and creates a revolutionary tool for gauging the market price for buying or selling a property. The database covers the USA and Canada and there are plans for expansion into international properties sometime next year.

"Currently, management involved in acquisitions must use 'rule of thumb' multiples and other crude 'off the cuff' methods early in the acquisition process until engineering gives them hard numbers," says McCartney Taylor, president of Black Bart Data. "With the advent of the Black Bart Comparables, those days are now past. Now, they can log into the website, click on the state and county they want and 'Bingo!' the database displays the most recent properties sold in that area and their ratios."

Black Bart Comparables will give the acquisition and divestiture professionals immediate online access to important data such as the critical ratios paid in an area or a county including 'months production paid' and '$/NBOE per day'. Additional uses of the Black Bart Comparables data is after the acquisition, to justify to management or investment committees that a property was bought or sold at a favorable price relative to market rates.

"It's amazing that no one else created this tool before we did. The oil and gas industry has had over 15 years since the first auctions began to create a comparables database, and no one picked up the ball and ran with it until us." says Taylor.

In the coming months, Black Bart Data will issue reports derived from the Black Bart Comparables database such as: a market share estimate of each auction house; average ratios of months production paid in each state and County; and quarterly auction activity.
